The only item missing from this story is the \”immensely reprehensible\” lack of personal responsibility on the part of the plantiff. Carry-on liberals!
This case has a 9:1 ratio of punitives to compensatory damages. It will be interesting to see if the Supreme Court passes up a case with a ratio of 152:1-
It is really unbelievable that courts still feel that most American\’s are never to blame for their own bad habits.
I can\’t wait until someone finds artifical sweetners cause cancer and then sue for millions for making a defective product.
Perhaps someone arrested for DWI suing the alchol manufactor for not labeling the bottle that drinking can lead to being arrested for acting like an idiot.
C\’mon conservatives, you have to love this verdict. A measely $50 million to a man who snuffed his own life through ongoing stupidity. Isn\’t that reasonable?
We cannot expect him to be held responsible for his actions, millions of times over. This poor, uneducated lump could not possibly have known that sucking down great quantities of smoke for 40 years would do harm. Give the turd-for-brains a break!
Shame on the high court for not taking appropiate action in this matter. If you smoke chances are you will suffer from it. If you drink you will suffer from it. Its all about the taxes generated from the sale of tobacco.
I\’m so glad that my government has seen fit to protect me from all those harmful and addictive drugs out there like heroin, crack, and tobacco… Ooops! There must be too much money involved to make tobacco illegal, or is there some other reason such a harmful substance is still allowed to be sold here?
Give me a break! No one made this guy smoke. What is wrong with our court system these days? Every citizen of this country has a responsibility to let our courts know that this is not acceptable. Smokers Take Some Responsibility For Yourselve–Stop Blaming Others!!
I want to sue all liberals and the Supreme Court for making me stupid. Anyone else want in??? Should be good for at least 100 million, billion dollars – as Dr. Evil would say.

Gee…I wonder what those labels mean when they say \”WARNING…\”. Oh well, I\’ll just keep smoking…even though I\’m coughing up blood…
Of course, the party involved is never to blame, just the recipient of a bad product….
