Why was the truck on the tracks?
One article I read said dust was coming from behind the truck indicating it was moving and maybe trying to BEAT the train going 90mph. The same article said the driver was using an “audio device”. There was also a STOP sign visible in the video of the crossing. Locals should have known the danger of this crossing and a dump truck driver was likely a local. Had there been lights, would the driver have stopped or tried to beat the train?
How far away is the next crossing How many other accidents at THIS crossing in the past. Why not just close it down and let the locals drive around to the next closes safer crossing. We’ve all seen the railroad signs : STOP, LOOK. LISTEN.
The headlights are bright, the horns are loud, and that track is straight as a string in the videos. The articles imply that Amtrak and Missouri are responsible. What about the truck driver and the passengers, never mind the cost of the damaged railroad equipment and track. 2 sides to most stories. I read 90 trains a day go across this crossing.
