    Restitution is no penalty for this piece of human garbage who defrauded the public. He should have spent some time in the slammer. He probably figures he lost nothing in the process. Nice work legal system. Where’s the deterrent?

    While the punishment should definitely fit the crime and serve as a deterrent to one and all, there is no way we can rehabilitate anyone if we resort to name calling. Our society — including the schools, parents and social media — does not value respect for others. We should not be surprised when anyone decides to simply take what (s)he wants. If we want better behaviour, we have to teach it and use it ourselves.
