A former assistant U.S. attorney alleges in a lawsuit that she was subjected to age discrimination and harassment by her boss, Stephanie Rose.
Rose is a federal judge nominee now under consideration by the U.S. Senate.
The Des Moines Register reports the lawsuit was filed by 55-year-old Martha Fagg. She was a lawyer for 12 years in the Sioux City branch of the U.S. Attorney’s Northern District office.
She alleges Rose removed or demoted staff and attorneys older than 40. After complaining in 2010, Fagg says Rose began a prolonged retaliation.
In a statement Thursday evening, Rose called the claims meritless.
Fagg is seeking lost earnings, compensation for distress and other damages.
If confirmed, Rose would be a federal judge for the Southern District of Iowa. She is 39.
