Why is the federal government buying these homes? This is not a federal issue. If these people didn’t care enough about their homes to insure them in the private market nobody else should care about it.

I realize that you might not be aware of the situation in Cedar Rapids, it only being 18 months ago when the flood happened, but the houses being purchased are not in the previously defined flood plain & thus not required to purchase flood insurance.
That would be why the flood maps have been being re-evaluated all along the Mississippi river for the last 12 months.

Except the only difference is the government should pay 10% of the property’s worth and no one else the 90%. They do live in a flood plain, but of course they are all allowed to rebuild with government money. The whole city should be one big national park. I guess da ones in da north are smarter dan da ones in da south.
