I know people doing these activities aren’t that bright to begin with, but how do you profit by destroying your own vehicle? The insurance company isn’t going to pay you more than the truck is worth.

You get your car loan paid (maybe completely). Insurance company will pay Retail value, if you try to turn the car in to dealer you would only get Trade-in value. Even if you tried to sell it yourself, you can expect to get less than full dealer retail.
Common problem, but insurance companies do catch them often. Not worth a felony record but crooks are dumb…

Probably the best way to do this would be to take your car to a bad neighborhood and leave the keys in it. Just dont admit to leaving the keys in it.

If it comes up later, just say you lost your keys in a near by restaurant.

Of course the fear might be that you would just get the car back in really crappy condition, not bad enough to have it totalled.

They don’t want more than what the truck is worth, they just don’t want the truck anymore.
