Can you imagine having to repair your house in accord with some busybody’s idea of what it should look like?

It’s one thing to buy a house knowing that the local historical society gadflies are in charge of aesthetics, but there have been cases where people have had to incur greater expenses than necessary just to make maintanence repairs to houses that were declared “historic” after they were purchased.

Houses cannot last forever. If these dimwits want to be in charge of how they are maintained, let them pay for it.

Al……well said and totally accurate. I also worry about fools like this who lvie their lives looking through the rear view mirror. Maybe if they focused on the present or the future the world would be a better place.

A guy near here was prevented from improving a piece of land because there was an old barn or stable or something on it, and he wasn’t allowed to tear it down. And he couldn’t sell it because it was worthless with this old building in the middle of it that couldn’t be torn down, PLUS having to keep it in repair in accordance with the local hist soc gadflies.

So he burned it down, plead guilty to arson, paid the $10k fine, and sold the property for $200k.
