Why didn’t they purchase flood insurance? I hope the city’s insurance agent has E&O.

$465,000 in damages to city hall in a town with 900 people? Why in our town in Iowa, with roughly the same population, we could tow in a new city hall for about $9,000 and instead of fixing the waste plant we would suggest that people use the toilet facilities at work before they come home – Kind of like putting in a little more air in the tires to keep our gas bills affordable.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette ran an interesting article today about how FEMA bought out homes in 97 in Grand Forks, ND after major flooding. It only took the city six months to buy people out w/ help from HUD and FEMA. That isn’t going to happen in the midwest there year tough. The article is at http://www.gazetteonline.com
