May as well not wear one if it’s only going to cost you $40!

    …now we suffer from laws.

I agree, this law is overboard. Helmets are smart, I always use one. But, using our government to enforce reasonable activities? That’s not smart.

    So much for freedom…

If common sense were common we would not need laws to force individuals to protect themselves. In these cases, we need to protect society from the money they cost us due to their ignorance. I, in my infinite wisdom and experience, consider not wearing a helmet to be extreme ignorance. Just my opinion. Why should we all pay for the lack of sense of these individuals? If they want to be brave and noble free people, let them do it on without costing us millions. Sorry if you consider this an infringement on your liberties, but there is no perfect freedom where money is concerned.

if it’s the case that you don’t want to wear the helmet, then i just won’t pay for your medical costs and then sue the state for using my tax dollars for your non-common sense. lucky for me – i live i a state where it is mandated. beware that if you travel in these states, you have to have a helmet, so why not agree! it COULD save your life.

Larry, you are correct; Dread has posted on this before. For myself, I don’t care if anyone participates in any risky behavior. I just don’t want to see their family sue to cover the cost of their long term care when the rider is a vegetable. And you can forget about a hold harmless agreement; the vegetable can’t enforce that; it is those left holding the bag who want taxpayer dollars when their resources are exhausted. Bikers can do as they please as far as I’m concerned. We can’t protect people from their own choices…so let them live with the consequences. But plaintiff’s attorney will always find a gold and silver lining (of their pockets) when a lawsuit can be brought for “damages”

FYI – Michigan is a no-fault state, but motorcycles are excluded from no-fault except when involved in an acciddent with a car. Then regardess of whose fault the accient was, the car insurer pays the motorcyclists injuries for life.

you are exactly right no matter who is at-fault, your own insurance is going to pay out…this is the only state is a true-no-fault state!….

every other state that claims to be, is in for a warning! just because that state said you had to carry so much in PIP, is that after that amount – the at-fault party will be responsible. it’s a shame that folks just don’t want to be responsible. they would rather blame everyone else and get tons’ of money (of which majority goes to the lawyers).

Rudya: that’s what I’m talking about. When one’s personal freedom is curtailed, then everyone’s liberties are curtailed. People actually believe that those of us that choose to ride [with or without] are all uninsured or are persuaded to believe this by the Safety Nazies. I call it the “Second Hand Smoke” strategy that plays upon the fear factor; fear that is so often exploited by those few with political agendas upon the massess.

The MCCA fund is overseen (and rates set) by insurance executives and the books are close to the public. Gov. Jenny has refused to try to change this. Why? Because see’s in the hip pocket!!
