All good points Dread. Once again the politicians and legislators got it wrong. They treat the symptom, not the cause. No amount of liability coverage can make amends for kinds of injuries these dogs cause. What this law says is bascially “we don’t want to lose voters but we know these breeds are dangerous. So, we’ll make the owners carry $300K in insurance in case one of their dogs ruins somebody’s life.” On the next issue.

There are about 4.7 Million dog bites annually or about 1 every forty seconds will require medical attention. The most likely targets for injury are children under age 5 and most often targeted is their head. Since kids under 5 do not get any say in this, it would make sense for responsible adults to do everything they can to eliminate the tragedy of dog maulings, attacks and bites.

It’s easy to say “it’s the owners not the breed” until the pet that you have bred to be gentle and loving has an off day and decides to rip a child’s face off, these attacks happen all the time here in Cincinnati. Then what is your excuse, if you are the one to raise it and it turns on someone you love. This is what these breeds do, you can’t train it out of them. They can be great dogs for 10 years and suddenly something sets them off and a child is seriously injured because of it. To me it’s just not worth the risk, is it to you?

Honestly, all dogs are animals. Any of them can snap after 10 years of good behavior.
