here’s the problem w/ur thought old guy:

    1) who’s insurance company is paying? not those killed in the tragedy because they were not negligent or at fault. the city/state are responsible for the safety of the bridges and therefore responsible for the lives that travel them. now, the state should have some kind of insurance to handle the situation.

    2) $400k? is truly a price to place on a death of a loved one? if that person is the head of household w/1 income – how much is that going to last? if that person happened to be 30 years of age and died, that means by retirement years, he/she would have at least another 35 yrs to go. so an average good salary is what? 25k? so that is basically covering 16 yrs? what happens to the other 19? you can’t force that other person to get a job because of fault that they did not contribute to. top it of, what about the cost of medical or those that can no longer work — social security is going to say sorry – get that from the state since it was their problem that cause it.

this is truly going to be a sticky issue. but $400k is not enough.

I’m really sorry that these folks were injured or killed. I thought that insurance was invented to pay those who were injured aor the families of those who lost a loved one. I guess the government has taken over that function so I can stop paying premiums and my employer can nail its doors shut because insurance is no longer needed.

Now you know that in today’s world there always has to be a large payout. How else can I go on living without my spouse/parent/child without some large sum of money?
