I regret that this individual was injured, but let\’s get real $15,000,000 in pain and suffering for an 85-year old!!! What is his life expectancy at this point? Acuatlly living on borrowed time. I think that this is another case where the bottom-dweller is going to get a great percentage of the settlement and the victim will not live long enough to take much advantage of his cut.

What goes through the minds of some of these juries? Just once, I want to be on a personal injury jury and push for a reasonable settlement, not one that makes lawyers rich and insurance premiums soar.

You hit the nail on the head, Ray. What king of pain would a person who is paralyzed from the neck down feel? I, too, am sorry he was injured, but the judge and jury must be paralyzed from the neck up to uphold this kind of award!!

The wife got $500,000. What is that for – because the husband can\’t perform his \”husbandly\” duties.

I guess they would have been better off just hitting him a little harder and killing him. They could have got off for a mere half mil instead. This award is ludicris. The old fart probably only had a few years left anyways. And using the \”blessed by the priest\” as a excuse to name the church is really stretching it if you ask me. So, does that mean the next time someone who eats Kosher food and gets sick and is hospitalized, they can sue all the synagogues in the country?

Well the good thing is that Catholic Mutual is a self-insured fund, not an insurance company so the public will not have to bail them out. Catholic Mutual is also selling property assets to pay off $10,000,000 in sexual abuse claims in Calf. Now they have two albatrosses to deal with. Can you say belly up or Pope please help…..Alms, alms for the poor?

Look on the bright side, once these knuckleheads go under, perhaps a responsible insurance company can come in, charge a profitable premium for these churches, and not throw in coverage for volunteers, sexual abuse and and other give away coverages.

well stupid weeds, they guy who got smashed was a guy that had a mother that lived unti she was 97 and a dad that lived until he was 95 and other family members that lived beyond 90. He should have had another 7 years at least. The day he got clipped he was on a ladder painting his barbershop building. He was coherent and not a basket case. This ruined his adult children’s lives who partialy left their families to care for him. I was there, and WTF do any of you know from crap and the end of your noses? not a lot I see.
