The one lesson that has been learned by Europe and North America is that these low tech terrorist attacks are foreseeable and therefore proper planning and simple mitigation measures are the best means of preventing hostile vehicle attacks.

The WORST means of prevention is to do nothing and tell the public to just get used to the risks. This is not a responsible attitude from a simple safety standpoint or from a security standpoint. The substantial resources expended by the TSA and airlines since 9/11 prove that prevention is in fact an important and effective public concern

New York City has protected Times Square Plaza, and additional areas are about to be similarly protected. Las Vegas just installed 800 bollards to protect The Strip with as many 8000 more on the way. Many other cities, retail and commercial areas, campuses and entertainment/sports venues continue to take steps to prevent vehicle attacks on crowds or property.

Safety devices on vehicles will have no effect on preventing terrorist or any other deliberate vehicle attacks for many years to come. Advocating non-solutions for a proven public safety concern does nothing for “Preventing Deadly Car Rammings.”
