This problem demands an immediate and aggressive response. Take the profit out of hijacking and you eliminate the problem. Those who have paid ransoms are encouraging more hijackings. The shipping industry needs to organize and pool it’s resources to pay a mercenary force to respond as soon as a hijacking occurs. Their mission: kill the hijackers and take back the stolen property. There should be no negotiations. A couple of fast boats and a chopper or two are all that is needed to respond. Traveling in convoys would help also. The world can ill afford to buy these vermin off. I’m still baffled at how these pieces of human garbage manage to get onboard in the first place. Give the crew a crate of grenades and have them toss them down onto the pirates and their boat.

Good answer Dread. If not grenades, at least a sling shot. Maybe Obama should hire you for Homeland Security.

I dont understand how you can have $250 million invested in ship & cargo but they cant spend the money for a few Jack Bauer types? What am I missing?

Here we go again with the Obama bashing. Get you head out your you know what and stop trying to blame him for what people think and say. Period, it is stupid to continue to pay these pirates and then they turn right around and take another ship. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to have my taxes raised to pay pirate ransom. We are already going to have higher taxes to get out of the crisis we are in and so now we are just throwing away money we don’t have. This must stop and not with us writing a check.
