I find it incredulous that so many people consider this a “complicated problem” and that so many shipowners are willing to pay ransoms for return of their property. It’s not a complicated problem. You have a bunch of un-sophisticated punks from a 3rd world garbage country to manage to board vessels without being challenged. A handful of trained and armed guards onboard every vessel would be a good investment. How will these thugs climb up the side of a ship while someone with an automatic weapon is firing down on them? The shipowners can travel in convoys with armed mercenaries escorting them. The reason the problem is escalating is that there continues to be profit in it. Killing the pirates is a good start. As for the ships that are being detained, the pirates location should be attacked and the property removeed by force. It’s time civilized people started playing hardball will human garbage.
Dread’s right… Lay waste to the towns and ports the pirates are holed up in. No one in these towns are innocent.. They’re co conspirators. For the ones caught on the high seas… Make ’em walk the plank… I believe that’s the way it used to be done.
Why not let the ship owners/operators deal with the problem? I like the idea of them hiring their own private defense force. Have them on every ship; have helicopters follow the ships; use the latest navigational and tracking gear and they can handle the problem.
By the way, if it’s a good idea to bomb the cities where the pirates might be holed up and kill others around them who have involvement whatsoever with the pirates, then let’s bomb Washington, D.C. which houses the biggest-and most dangerous-group of crooks in the known world.
Hey guys, I like your thinking. You make the Boston Tea Party look like, well, a Party!!! Extortionists, pirates and lawyers should have reason to think twice when they do something like this. Nothing like a good whuppin’ to make bad boys behave.
