“According to a new U.N. report, the global warming outlook is much worse than originally predicted. Which is pretty bad when they originally predicted it would destroy the planet.” –Jay Leno

“The report on climate change said that humans are very likely making the planet warmer. To which Hillary Clinton said, ‘Hey, can’t blame me for that one.'” –Jay Leno

“President Bush told reporters he won’t see Al Gore’s documentary about the threat of global warming. He will not see it. On the other hand, Dick Cheney said he’s seen the global warming film five times, and it still cracks him up.” –Conan O’Brien

“Former Vice President Al Gore starring in a new documentary about global warming. I believe it’s called [Leno snores]. … The film actually features Al Gore and explores his journey on how he first got interested in temperature change. It started back when he was vice president. He noticed how the temperature would change, like whenever Bill would walk into the room, it would get warm and whenever Hillary walked into the room, it got cold.” –Jay Leno

“According to Time magazine, global warming is 33% worse than we thought. You know what that means? Al Gore is one-third more annoying than we thought.” –Jay Leno

“They say if the warming trend continues, by 2015 Hillary Clinton might actually thaw out.” –Jay Leno, on global warming

“At a press conference yesterday NASA announced that 2005 was the hottest year on record. It is so hot, and global warming is so bad, if the presidential election were held today, Al Gore would still lose.” –Jay Leno

“Heating bills this winter are the highest they’ve been in five years, but President Bush has a plan to combat rising bills. It’s called global warming.” –Jay Leno

“Al Gore said over the weekend that global warming is more serious than terrorism. Unless the terrorist is on your plane, then that extra half a degree doesn’t bother you so much.” –Jay Leno

So please answer my question: What ended the last Ice Age?

Also, the warmest year on record is 1934.

Average global temperatures have not risen at all in the past ten years. The spike recorded in the early 1990’s resulted from the USSR going out of business, and shutting down its temperature measuring stations.

There’s an active volcano under the North Pole that has caused warmer water temps and thereofore a smaller ice cap – which is also thicker, which puzzles all of the omnipotent, omniscient scientists.

Carbon dioxide is a minor greenhouse gas that occurs naturally in the atmosphere, and helps to maintain the earth at a temperature suitable for life. Carbon dioxide is essential to the growth of all plants. Without it, plants could not grow and all animal life would consequently die. In no way is this gas a pollutant. To call it one is badly misleading. As noted, the principal “greenhouse gas” is water vapor, all others combined cannot reach a fraction of its effect on climate.

Life on earth is carbon-based and the source of that carbon is carbon dioxide in the air. CO2 in the air is replenished by the exhalations of animals as they breath, by forest fires, by the fumes from rotting plants, by volcanic eruptions, and lastly and leastly, industrial processes. Increases in CO2 in the air boost the size and yield of crops.

Vikings had thriving settlements on Greenland 1,000 years ago, the it got much colder. Which temperature is the normal one, the warm one of 1,000 years ago, or the cold one today? Either way, how do you know?

So, what ended the last Ice Age?

This chain of comments is looking more political and less scientific than it should be. I happy to argue certain issues, but it seems there are those that believe what the scientist say, and then there are those that believe what the politician say. My earlier point of arguing global warming was taken out of context and the comments made by Chilly that the US is the not one of the greatest pollutors is flat out wrong. I’ve live on 4 continents (North America, South America, Europe, and Africa). There amount of waste the american people produce is outstanding in comparison to everyone else. The use of plastics outside the US is minimal. Everything is recycled in other parts of the world. In america there are mountains of plastic trash (of which 99% is non biodegradable). What are you going to do with it? Throw it in the oceans and kill all marine life? Burn it and release toxic fumes to kill infants and the elderly? The culture in america is to consume, consume, then through away the left overs. Truthfully, just look at the obesity in this country. Don’t get me wrong, but what I see is that this country is becoming increasing fat and lazy. They feel everything is entitled to them and screw the rest of the world. I mean come on, every civilized nation in the world signs the kyoto treaty but the US. All that shows is that this country is run by special interest groups that want nothing but to line their own pockets at the expense of everyone else and the future.

But you haven’t argued any science, you just claim to be on the side of the scientists as opposed to the politicians. That’s laughable. So plese tell us how reducing the least plentiful “greenhouse gas” – CO2 – is going to effect global warming. Also, please tell us what we can do about 97% of these gases – water vapor.

The US produces more wealth than most other nations combined. Pardon us if we also produce a lot of trash, which is off topic though — we’re talking global warming here. The US is indeed one of the cleanest countries on earth. Poor and developing countries generally can’t afford to clean up after themselves, nor saddle their businesses with environmental regulations. Wealthy countries can afford what are luxuries in poor countries. I should think that this would be axiomatic.

You veer off topic because you can’t gainsay anything my compadres or I have said, and you manage to bash the US in the process. You want us to shut up and take dictation from the UN, George Soros’s various front groups, and third-world agitators? Go fish.

They banned paper grocery bags (very recyclable) 20 years ago in Seattle, telling everyone that plastic was the way to go. Never mind that the ensuing layoffs and shutdowns of logging operations and pulp mills left many small towns indigent. Now plastic is bad huh?
And I keep hearing about how bad the environment is. Is it? Somehow that’s not what I see when I move about the country. In fact, don’t we all know much more about responsible stewardship of the planet than our folks did? We recycle everything now, including used motor oil,
that our folks put in the garbage or even the ground. How is your drinking water?
Good. How is your air? Good. I might like to believe those who perpetually tell me the sky is falling but NOTHING they tell me do I see when I move about, and I am pretty observant. Can I think money or political philosophy may motivate some groups to promote an environmental or liberal agenda? Hell yes! So what I am being told does not agree with anything I see. Therefore I have no choice but to ‘Marvin Gaye’ it.
Believe half of what I see and none of what I hear.

Lastly, Americans don’t want to take responsibility for their actions? What a crock. That’s like those who use my tax dollars complaining that I don’t pay enough, when the only thing they should say to me is ‘thanks for helping out’.
We have local, state and federal government agencies gone wild with environmental restrictions, regulations and land takings. We pay for that. We assign responsibility to our government to act in the national best interest when it comes to the environment. Why you have the dept of natural resources, the environmental protection agency, the parks department, fish and game etc etc.
Aren’t they all much more responsible for the course our national environmental policy follows than some knucklehead like me? And please do not post here that gill fin needs to do his part too. I AM DOING MY PART.

Communist China, world’s largest CO2 emitter, says US should change its ways but Communist China is not going to change, observers say Communist China is really great, and the US is the bad guy. What little Communist China says it will do is unverifiable since it is a closed society and dissenters and whistle blowers exposing govt lies are imprisoned if not shot.

What a shock: UN enviro-whacko summit turns into US bashfest, Communist lovefest. Whoda thunkit?
