Nick Prettejohn is a man ahead of his time – it is a shame that the market only moves when it is on the brink of destruction. One hopes that his successor is as consistently proactive as he has been in seeking reform and improvements in the market. Also perhaps when Underwriters begin to understand the risks which they are understanding more realistically in the modern environment then they can play the percentage game a bit more effectively. The rating system is archaic and unimaginative and needs a complete revision. Unfortunately there are few visionaries out there brave enough to step forward and break the mould. I am sure the Professor of Acturial Studies at Cass University in the City would agree with me – he said as much at his seminar in Lloyds of London earlier this year !!!!
