Maine State Police are asking motorists to slow down and move over when they see an officer conducting a traffic stop on the state’s roadways, after several cruisers have been struck in the past few months.
Maine State Police Corporal Lance McClish tells WCSH-TV that crashes have been caused when drivers are either going too fast or not paying attention. He says distracted drivers are one of the biggest concerns for state police.
Drivers who see an emergency or police vehicle in the breakdown are required by law to move into the passing lane. Otherwise, they face a fine of more than $300.
