Intersting and pathetic. Since when did the state police become a substitute social service agency required to check on old people? If the daughter actually gave a crap about the old lady she might have arranged for someone to escort her to the doctor and back home. I wonder how the police got the wrong address in the first place.

Jester, you are so judgemental, like you have been there and done everything. I just can’t believe for myself that you have been through every situation you comment on with such arrogance. First, maybe whoever took the call wrote down the info wrong. The daughter just doesn’t give a crap because she didn’t arrange for someone to escort her mother to the doctor?? PLEASE! DO YOU THINK EVERYONE IS JUST DROWNING THE KIND OF MONEY YOU MUST HAVE TO MAKE THESE KINDS OF SUGGESTIONS? The problem has more to do with the lack of accountability and people thinking “this isn’t my job, so I’ll just half-ass it as much as possible to get it done, not matter what the consequence or who is affected.” PLEASE! That’s what’s wrong with people today. Noone can take responsibility for their own actions and face the music in the end.

Talk about arrogant, wow! There is not enough info here for anyone to REALLY know what happened. Personal responsibility, yes, but why DIDN’T the daughter follow up herself?

Based on what we know here, I gotta come in on your side on this. The doctrine of Soverign Immunity comes from the presumption that the King(Soverign / Govt) IS above the law and that the subjects (citizens) are at the mercy of their Largess. If the police didn’t want to be bothered they shouldn’t have accepted the assignment or referred it to an appropriate authority. This is why some people prefer to live in small towns.

The sad reality is that in the real world we have to accept the consequences of our mistakes or deliberate wrong doing. There is no reason that anyone from the Department of Public Safety, or any state employee should be exempt from this.

These Troopers made a mistake that ultimately cost a woman her life. Welfare checks are a part of their regular work load. This was nothing out of the ordinary for them. They failed in that duty.
