Not enough information here to get the full story and point fingers. The individual officer reprimand may be warranted as was stated but there should have been some departmental review of when SWAT is deployed. Does this situation fit with applicable policy for the time? Fairfax Co is no bunch of bumpkins. This might have something to do with the settlement. Maybe a pattern of abuse?

Also, SWAT is used when there is potential for violence or the suspected targets have a history of violence. It might be that the Dr. was not too concerned about who his associates were.

Normally, I’m sympathetic to law enforcement and understand some things going wrong. This isn’t one of them. You don’t “accidentally” shoot and kill anyone, particularly if you’re a trained law enforcement professional. He should have been terminated, not disciplined.

Just think what the penalty would have been if the crime was worse than gambling!

It seems that sometimes SWAT teams get a little over zealous when carrying out these raids. On the other hand, they shouldn’t take any chances either. Too bad this was deemed “accidental”. I wouldn’t want the pressure these guys are under.
