Darn shame someone insulted our EMT’s at the hospital. In a crisis situation, I’d rather have an EMT than most MD’s.
    An apology is warranted.
God Bless our First Responders – treat them with respect and honor their mission.

I think what he means is that it wouldn’t be the EMT’s area of expertise to indicate what the chemical exposure was. I don’t think that he was meaning to insult. Pretty sure that a normal MD wouldn’t be able to venture a knowledgeable guess either …

OMG! This boat dumped canisters back into the water knowing one was leaking? What were they thinking when they pulled them up? Treasure? Because they got close enough to be injured by whatever was in the one that leaded. Guess if you eat clams or fish from this area you might want to turn off the lights to see if it glows in the dark.

Jarana, First of all, they were dredging which doesn’t allow them to be terribly selective on what they pick up. It is very likely that the leak started when the nets were dumped on deck. Second, it’s possible that they didn’t want the rest of them to start leaking on the boat and sicken or possibly kill the rest of the crew. If you and your friends found some mystery canisters in the woods and one started leaking, injuring one of your friends, would you gather up all of the rest of them to take with you or leave them there? It is likely that if the canisters are metal and have been down there awhile, the seals have corroded/weakened and the difference in outside pressure from the bottom of the ocean and the open atmosphere is what caused the first one to leak. I’m sure the captain was aware of this and didn’t want to take the chance on the rest of the canisters leaking the seemingly dangerous and unknown substance. I wouldn’t have thought twice about doing the same thing in order to maintain the crew’s safety. Let’s keep the well being of the crew in mind here too–they’re not the ones who put them there in the first place.
