An explosion and a fast-moving fire has destroyed a building at an eastern Maine boatyard.
Fire officials say there wasn’t enough left of the building at RP Boat Shop in Steuben to determine the cause.
Owner Richard Pinkham told the Bangor Daily News he was in another building at his Route 1 business when he heard an explosion at 9 a.m. Monday. He said the fire leveled the building in 10 or 15 minutes. No one was injured.
The building housed the company’s boat molds, which are used to form fiberglass hulls.
The company makes lobster, fishing and recreational boats. Fire officials said the fire is not considered suspicious.
