Holy disingenuousness! No matter how many “claims” and “allegations” that came forward, the church hierarchy thinks these are just troublemakers, liars and such; instead of looking for the truth, they didn’t look at all at what was happening. What does it take to get the church to admit that all this smoke means that there was fire? Hell fire, I hope, is what they will get, if they really expect to be judged when they pass on.

While I in no way condone abuse of children by anyone much less a priest, I have to wonder about the legitimacy of these claims. Most of the alleged “victims” came forward 20-30 years or more after the “alleged” incidents and only after free MONEY entered the picture. What proof could they possibly offer? Although some “alleged” emotional trauma, they all seemed to be leading happy, productive lives. And what purpose to the ridiculoulsly high awards serve other than unjustly enriching these people? “IF” there were any merit to their allegations, all or some portion of the monetary awards should have gone into a fund to educate and prevent this from recurring. Religious communities by nature are non-confrontational hence were reluctant to stand up to some of these allegations and defend themselves. It would be interesting to see how many “alleged” victims there were compared to the total number of church going Catholics in the U.S. to set some perspective on the scope of this “alleged” problem. I intentionally used “alleged” as none of these matters have gone through trial.

How do you know the people making these claims led “happy and productive lives”? Did you speak the them? Have you walked in someone’s shoes who has been abused? Do you have any idea of the kind of additional abuse is brought on by family and friends against an individual making such a claim against the exalted church? Are you familiar with the shame and profound guilt felt by such an abused individual? Let’s here what it is like Mr. Spector!

well, there will be 2 sides to every story, but i think there is actually 3. there is the victim side and then the priest side, and then the real truth. i agree, how do we really know that after 20-30 years they were abused? how many were legite and how many were not? the only thing i can think of is since both of them attended church in one form or fashion, that if their belief will one day haunt them when they come to meet their god. will the courts get it right? i don’t know! interesting that the church’s have that large bank account to pay out so much.

So, having a religious affiliation gives you license to presume the aims of those alleging abuse? Being pious does not dilute your know-it-all, cynical, and superficial judgements. You must be a lot of fun to live Mr. Spectator. Learn some humility. You probably are not that intelligent.

These abuse victims can keep this guilt inside for many, many years before the effects show themselves. Also, it’s not the money that is bringing these people out in the open – you don’t even know what you’re talking about!

The hell they have to go through during the court proceedings – you don’t even know what you’re talking about!!

The priests that molest stalk these young boys and have been instructed (by other church priests) on what traits to look for – you don’t even know what you’re talking about!!!

Ex-Wife: Suggesting the Catholic church was involved in a conspiracy to molest young boys shows your paranoia. Funny how this extremely small percentage of “alleged” victims get all the publicity. Where was the publicity for all the priests who have done positive things over the centuries? This “woe is me” mentality of these “alleged” victims is pathetic. If it wasn’t about the money, why are all these money grubbers taking it? NOT ONE HAS REFUSED. As for the “alleged” injuries, do you really think that after 30 years theyl’re going to start therapy? Hell no. They’re going to Disneyland.

Listen Batman, you probably anti-catholic anyway. Don’t you remember the phrase, Judge not lest ye be judged. Be careful what you are wishing for these people. I’m sure you lead a perfect life. Watch out!
