will that be the cabbie’s or anyone? who would be paying for the installation? sounds like another way for prevention or solution to resolution of accidents at someone else’s expense. i would make this voluntary and have the city to pay for the installation. also, ensure that can’t cite you for reckless driving just because you moved. now if you had an accident because of the erratic driving, then i might say something.
You ever ridden in a NY cab? OMG talk about kiss the ground when you got where you were going!!!! ;-)
Seriously, they do drive like lunatics. If you’re going to be transportation for the public, there has to be some accountability. If they feel it is an invasion of their privacy, then make it that the camera turns on when they turn on the meter? They are transporting the general public, seems to me their privacy would be a non-issue.
If it’s going to be voluntary, put some kind of notification that they have cameras- I’d probably be more inclined to use a cab driver that knows their driving is being monitored.
Duh, the money to install will come from the broadcast rights. And from the victims that get their photos taken, just like when you get off the roller coaster at any other amusement park. Sheesh.

I always felt grateful they actually came to a complete stop to let me get out.
