A Walpole, Mass. lawyer has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty in a scam to inflate medical bills to insurance companies.
Personal injury lawyer Bruce Namenson entered guilty pleas last week to multiple charges of motor vehicle insurance fraud, conspiracy, larceny and embezzlement.
After he completes his prison term, Namenson will be on probation for 10 years, and must repay over $600,000 in restitution.
Authorities alleged that Namenson and a business associate, Gerald Schena, submitted inflated medical bills to insurance companies for Namenson clients who had been hurt in car accidents, making it appear they were treated more times than they were.
Schena, who was also charged in the scheme, is currently being held on $1 million bail on previous insurance fraud charges.
