Many of the 5 boroughs are inhabited by immigrants who neither read nor speak English, and lack even basic levels of common sense and personal safety. When a smoke alarm goes off while they’re cooking, they simply disconnect the battery. When a battery goes dead, they won’t spend the money to replace it. When they don’t have an alarm, they don’t think to buy one or get one free from the FDNY. When the power goes out, they use the gas oven. If they can’t pay their gas bills, they use electric space heaters or candles. I think the campaign is a good one but I doubt it will make any difference in terms of curbing accidental fire deaths.

Ron, your point that immigrants “lack even basic levels of common sense and personal safety” is both racist and ignorant.

Danny……that’s your opinion. If you lived here and watched the news you’d realize it’s neither; just the facts. I’m surprised that a nice mick like you is whining about racism and ignorance.
