I vote w/ the majority (insert scathing comment here)- she was a ‘bad hire’ in the first place – the Airline cut her 4 years slack in hopes she would just ‘go away’…and , when all else failed, they paid her to ‘go away’

    the almighty $$….

first of all, they gave her a furlough – ok, so did they pay her to be out for the past 4 yrs? if she gets back into the system, will she be able to get onto a plane and respond appropriately? or will her feet need to be on the ground?

4 years w/o $$, so how has she been living? how has she been paying bills? are you sure the actual claim might have been back pay til the day they actually fired her? she was not in the national guard, where there job is protected. they needed to fill her slot on the airlines because there was no way to keep it open after that many years. they might have wanted to put her in a different position but she may have declined that (we’ll never know). curious – how much did she get? and will she ever fly again?

I completely agree with you lastbat, on both of your comments. JB your post is as pathetic as you. Learn to read and comprehend. They should have fired this person the minute she refused to go back to work.

I agree with all of you. 4 years wasn’t enough but 5 years did the trick? If there wasn’t some plaintiff’s attorney behind this, I think she would have just found other employment. My parents would have stopped talking to me if I were to sue on such spurious grounds. I was taught to be independent and when the chips were down, and I couldn’t stand to be a flight attendant, I would have told the airline long ago, thanks but here is where we part ways, changed professions and certaily would not have filed a lawsuit. The trial bar is called ambulance chasers for good reason. I do believe that there are mental issues for lots of people, but money can’t be the solution. This should not have even made the docket.

What a crock! This woman and her low-life attorneys make a mockery out of our court system and those with legitimate mental illnesses.

PTSD is a real problem that affects people who’ve experienced an extremely stressful or frightening situation. However, money sure as heck doesn’t cure any faster. A good therapist can help a person get over it, but ultimately the person has to be WILLING to WORK at getting over it in order to heal. The cure comes from within oneself… not within a fat wallet.

I’m so fed up with people like her who lie and manipulate in order to drain funds from businesses, insurance carriers, and other people in the name of “pain and suffering” or “illness” or “disability” when in truth it’s just plain FRAUD.

I don’t know about you guys, but if my MOTHER or FATHER dies, I only get three days off to get over it, then it’s back to work I go. She lost friends and collegues and needs 4 YEARS??? What a whimp!

I realize that being insurance folk we tend to be a little jaded when it comes to lawsuits, we’ve probably all seen how easily the system can be manipulate and abused. However, I think most of you are being a little quick to judge…
    1. You don’t have all the facts
    2. As I recall most Americans shied away from air travel after 9/11, it was a national tragedy that affected us all deeply. Tourism all over the world dropped significantly and home theater sales went through the roof. Now that time has past, it appears that we all are flying a little more.

And yes, I do have flight attendant and pilot friends and when air travel slowed and financial hard times hit, the airlines were not so nice to their employees, so who knows what really happened here.

They should have offered her another position immediately, like sweeping the floors. See if she still has PTSD then…..She should have been working all this time at something, anything, answering the phone. Then that would show a willingness to work! She just wanted the money.

um…. i like the thought about that americans were distressed and feared flying…but if you look at the industry, it did not suffer for 4-5 yrs…matter of fact, i think more americans are flying now than before…

the mentioning of loss of loved ones – agreed that 3 days to grieve is not enough. when our troops go to war and see horror, we don’t send them to pasture for 4-5 yrs and say see ya no more! in fact, we encourage counseling and continue service if feasible from day one. her threshold of pain and loss, does not compare to our soldiers – sailors – marines – airmen. i think that the company should go back and appeal that case.

companies have enough to hold spots for our military who have been called up for active duty. some have been active for more than 2 yrs. but the law allows that job to remain to the member because of the duty he/she is doing for uncle sam. this lady was not doing any service but her own. still not sure how she paid bills for the layoff. if she needed to sue, it should be the terrorists – not the company who had given her furlough. good news, she still lives in a free country – and our armed forces are still protecting her rights and freedom. she needs to step up, just as the rest of the americans who supported NYC during the ordeal.
