N.J. Dry Cleaner Who Lost Suit Makes Santa’s Naughty List

    Well, it looks like the NJ Court system is slow this time of year if this is all that they have to deal with….tort reform must have really reduced litigation there.
    Just wondering?:
    1. Did ol’Santa do any of this legal work and “horse & pony show” on Navy time? This is one taxpayer who would like to know!
    2. Will Santa report any of this to the IRS?
    3. This has to be a bad “Jewish” joke, right?
    4. Target currently has $35.00 Santa suits for sale!

    Shame on Santa for taking this to this extreme. Shame on the media for taking sides against a small business that appears to be “trying to do the right thing”.

    Insurers that specialize in drycleaners usually offer “unlimited bailee”. That
    eliminates the need to:
    – predict the total value of all the customer property in your care, and
    – pay the difference when your guess turns out to be too low

    I don’t think so; I think he did exactly what I would do to make sure that he got his money. This happened to me already and I NEVER got satisfaction from the dry cleaner. I wasn’t being greedy, the dry cleaner just knew that I didn’t have the resources to force payment. If its “caveat emptor” for the customer then let the shoe go on the other foot, when it fits the business.

    the fact is that the dry cleaner balked at any remedy so the guy went out and bought a replacement himself and then SUED to get satisfaction; the dry cleaner had two opportunities, at least, to come to the table and make some sort of settlement. I say she played her hand, and has pony up now that she lost. Now if she had referred him to her insurer, maybe there would have been a different outcome, where the insurer’s adjuster would have tried to find some way to satisfy the guys demand.
