Cal Ex Pat: Here’s a perspective from an “insider”, my son who is a general surgeon as to who will get into, and stay in medicine. To be politically correct, I won’t mention what our national origin is. Suffice it to say our family grew up in Ohio, are avid sports fans, respect America, speak no foreign languages. That being said, the people who are entering med school these days and the ones who remain in practice are foreign educated immigrants who most Americans have difficulty understanding. They are happy to be here and will play ball with the HMO’s and accept their negoiated fees. Volume to them is no problem. This country is on a slippery slope because of the bastardization of our medical profession and community. This court decision will only reinforce some quality people’s decision to stay clear of a medical profession. Instead of being valued and respected by the public, it has become a profit center for the plaintiff bar. I only hope that someday a personal injury attorney will need life-saving surgery and won’t be able to find a quality professional to save his sorry a s s.
