I WONDER IF THEY HAVE OTHER KIDS THEY CAN TRAIN TO USE DRUGS AND THEN SEND THEM TO COLLEGE. DO YOU SUPPOSE THESE PARENTS HAVE JOBS?

2) Your sarcasm is noted (at least, I hope that was sarcasm), but I would sooner assume that the parents are normal working types who simply believe that it DOES take a village, but not the one they live in. Hey, they got her to 18 successfully.
This is very interesting. On one hand the school does have care and custody for the student. Alot of schools do nothing or very little in preventing drugs and drinking. I think schools should adopt a zero tolerance for underage drinking and a zero tolerance for drugs. The parents have no control over an eighteen year old adult (at least in CA. If they were paying for the education they probably could have not written a check for tutition. But if she had scholarships or grants, they have no say or choice in sending her back. Its up to her (student). something needs to be done with college campuses. You see news reports about students losing their lives from drug and alcohol poising. We see poor behavior on spring break, we see things we dont want our children doing like girls gone wild videos. Its very hard to dictate to a child what not to do when you have no recourse or legal authority.
All I have to say is that parents do not have to be parents anymore. Our legal system is ridiculous and lawyers are idiots! This is a tragedy and my heart goes out to the parents because they are in a lot of pain; however, a university is an institution for higher learning, not a day care.
Why didn\’t they sue the NSA? Surely, the gov\’t would have been listening to the cell phone calls and emails of a heroin user from an East Coast liberal college.
The NSA, the FBI, and the CIA, (not to mention the Dept of Homeland Security) all should have been aware of what was going on and done something.
Maybe all parents should make a note to self: When your 18 year old takes time to talk to you (too rare these days) and tells you of drug use– HELP THEM. It\’s a cry for help that only you can answer.
My hear breaks for the parents but sending her back to the school where the problem started was the wrong answer.
All the people who are blaming the parents for letting the student return to college are tacitly agreeing with the parents\’ contention that college is at fault for the overdose.
I suspect that the problems in this case are much more severe than location. This young lady was expanding her horizons (one would presume both legally and illegally) and testing her boundaries. This is what teenagers do in order to grow up.
Would the parents have sued the university if she became pregnant or contracted a sexually transmitted disease?
