    I wonder how this is defined. If a dog is provoked and nips (breaks the skin) someone am I going to jail for a year? I have the sweetest pitbull terrier and feel laws like this are aimed at eradicating this breed. Its a shame a handful of people that treat their dogs poorly affect the thousands of responsible dog owners of this state.

    In reply to Dog Lover No this bill {SB200}
    also known as the Dorothy Sullivan Memorial Bill is not referring to that. It is for dangerous dogs whether it be a mutt mixed breed lab. any dog that attacks while running at large and does serious physcial damage to someone. This law is not against any breed. it is for irresponsible dog owners who make no attempt at controlling their dogs and let them run at large. This Bill also protects your dog from these attacks.

    Why would the citizens of Virginia want to support a Bill that makes it only a misdemeanor if a dog rips your child apart ,puts out an eye or tears the face so badly they are left with scars for life? Bill SB200, Sen. Houck\’s bill, not only makes more sense but is for the good of all the people in the commonwealth. Orrocks Bill is a slap in the face.

    In reply to gdsvt\’s commet that greenebetty does not own a dog you could not be MORE wrong. I do Have a dog and have ALWAYS owned a dog. that is even more reason for the SB200 Bill because it ALSO protects my dog which I love too much to see ripped apart by someone\’s dog running at large. I do love dogs but I love people more.If you are a responsible dog owner then this bill is to protect YOU.

    Once it is a criminal offense, homeowner policies will nolonger defend and pay damages for a dog bite.
