This article highlights how dysfunctional state government is in NY. No one can lead, and we are adrift. Sheldon Silver is only interested in protecting his plaintiff lawyer constituency in Manhattan, Joe Bruno can’t organize the Senate, and Governor Pataki has his eye on national office and won’t use the bully pulpit to force change. I predict a downward spiral for NY.

Texas is doing just fine. Our legislature fixed our insurance problems well enough. Why can’t these people just get insurance through the voluntary or surplus markets?

“Texas is doing fine” — who are you kidding? Texas’ residual markets insure almost 4X more people than the NY FAIR Plan. If the TX residual markets shut down, there would be total chaos in the coastal counties.
