Police in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula got a surprising visit from a suspected car thief when the man crashed into their public safety building.
WLUC-TV reports the man crashed Wednesday evening into a garage door at the Gladstone Public Safety Department building. The car was reported stolen from a construction site.
Officers restrained the man and he was taken to a hospital. His name and information about his condition weren’t immediately released.
The Delta County prosecutor’s office is expected to review the case. Authorities say they believe the man was under the influence of a controlled substance. Charges are being sought for larceny of a vehicle, malicious destruction of police property, resisting officers and driving under the influence of drugs.
The garage door is expected to be replaced.
