the loss of a child would be a terrible thing, and my condolences to the family

But $12 million is unreasonable, and won’t bring the child back

The hospital killed nine babies — each of whom died in agony. Each suffered from the same intestinal infection at the hospital. Even now the hospital is not taking responsibility.

Tampa Tribune “Family members took turns holding the lifeless body of Robert Gardner Jr., a premature baby who died a painful death. His light complexion had turned to black.

Father Robert Gardner Sr. and mother Allyson Parham began to sob and embraced one another.”

The award is to punish conduct that probably should have called for prison sentences instead. Maybe a better result would have the entire hospital board in prison for 10 – 15 for each death.

One other note — other than the nine babies in this lawsuit that died, there were nine more, a total of 18. In this lawsuit, the chief of pediatrics was twice impeached in sworn testimony. Baby Robert’s prior hospital transferred him to Tampa General on assurances that he would be treated by a neonatal surgical consultation. He wasn’t. The chief testified he had consulted with a pediatric surgeon. She denied the conversation took place. The baby died at the hospital and was not treated.
