Let’s not change the acronym for TRIA!

The industry — and the public — knows the terrorism insurance backstop as TRIA. The most recent bill merely extends TRIA, the government’s terrorism insurance backstop. What is important is to accurately describe the program itself — not the title of the bill that extends it.

Our industry already has a problem with confusion due to its penchant for “acronym soup.” Let’s not add to it by revising acronyms to reflect extension vehicles to underlying programs.

GAO’s real name is Government Accountability Office – The name was changed in 2004 to better reflect the mission of the office.
