Being in the insurance industry and having owned boats over the last forty-five (45) years I have always had real mixed feelings about the sale of these type boats to the public. Of course, the current carrier should be able to sell for salvage. Depending on the nature of the damage, a carrier would be crazy to insure such boats in the future (I speak here primarily of boats over 30\’ to 35\’). The purchaser of such boats are CRAZY !! There is no good deal on a boat that has been declared totaled by a carrier. Such a boat must be totally rebuilt from the hull up and by the time the rebuilding process is complete, the purchaser could have purchased a perferctly good boat on the open market at the same price or less….and if there is hull damage, forget it!!!! This is a bad situation and there is no answer that is fair to all.

Do you know where I could find salvage parts for sailboats? Would there be any from the hurricane? Looking for 34 ft. Catalina parts.

I would like to see the list of the damaged boats from the hurricanes this season, before they are put up for sale thru the salvage company’s and auction sites. Thank-you
