When a fire department receives tax monies to pay their expenses, they should not be billing taxpayers for those same services. If the funds they receive are inadequate, they need to find another way to generate revenue. As for sending such bills to the insurance company, at current limits for fire department charges, submitting a claim is laughable. Higher limits ought to be available, if fire departments are going to continue to bill for their services. Of course, the very idea that a fire department might bill for services rendered absolutely goes against public policy and erodes the well-being of the community.
