A reasonable and prudent person, particularly a building inspector, would inspect everthing that was damaged by a hurricane BEFORE it was rebuilt. But no. The town geniuses were too pre-occupied with re-opening for business to spend the time and money involved. The cost of that short-sighted decision will cost the taxpayers dearly. And that cost will be passed along to residents in the form of tax increases, and to those who vacation (or used to)at the shore in the form of ridiculously higher prices. Beach towns with or without boardwalks have not invested in maintenance, updating, or protecting their investments. The became complacent with the old, aging wooden structures that were their cash cows for so long. Visitors seemed willing to pay the high prices so who cared. Well, the golden goose is dead. They sucked the system dry and the shore will never return to what it once was. Greed conquers all.
