Intentional Fire Damages Maryland Building

September 24, 2010

The Fire Marshal’s Office in Frederick County, Maryland said it is investigating an intentionally set fire that damaged a vacant house in downtown Frederick.

Chief Fire Marshal Marc McNeal says the fire was spotted shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday. He says it caused about $60,000 worth of damage to the building owned by the Asbury Redevelopment Trust.

McNeal says the fire started on the first floor of the building at 108 West All Saints Street.

He says there is no evidence the building was targeted because of its connection to the nearby Asbury United Methodist Church, which created the Asbury Redevelopment Trust.

McNeal says a church official told investigators that homeless people have used building for shelter.
