I’ve seen some roundabouts that are poorly designed and are too small for cars to get around, much less trucks or buses. If anybody from Manhattan, KS is reading this, you have a problem.

And I’ve seen a lot of stupid… er… uninformed motorists who don’t know how to drive roundabouts.

The common mistake is coming to a full stop at the entrance. You do not have to stop in most cases, you just have to yield. I’ve almost rear-ended people who stopped for no reason.

I am also concerned with school buses and roundabouts because school buses have a lot of tail swing.

I’ve been driving roundabouts all my life in upstate NY and Massachusetts, where they have been around forever. When I was in driver ed at age 16, we spent a whole day driving roundabouts.

They ARE safer…if you can train drivers to navigate them properly. That is still the problem here in Colorado.

We have one here in Brookfield Il.which is a relatively small town, and it’s a nightmare.People don’t slow down because they’re afraid of who’s comin out like a shotgun from one of the six streets that feed the roundabout;it’s hard to see AROUND a Roundabout;people are confused on who stopped first at their intersection so you have near collisions all the time;once your in the roundabout it’s hard to get off into the street you want without practically cutting someone off.Come on people, let’s wake up we don’t live in Europe we don’t need roundabouts in the name of safety just because some politicians try to shove things down our throats in the name of safety. They are downright dangerous.Mr. Dean I have no idea how they drive property valus up. I would’nt want be near one.

The article says they are saf-ER, not completely fool proof. It’s not always safe to go outside either, but we do it. If you have ever been to Europe, stand back & watch how well they work.

I live in a historic neighborhood in Kansas City. We now have three roundabouts installed along the most heavily traveled boulevards. The traffic is not only slower (the intended result), but the architecture is outstanding, together with gardens and sculptures. This has added greatly to the resell value of the residences in our neighborhood. We applaude the addition of roundabouts properly planned for and constructed.

Ed, you sounds like an older driver who is not used to how a roundabout is supposed to work. They have specific classes for older drivers like your self to refresh your recollection of the rules of the road.

Things are changing but you are not alone, there are many drivers like yourself who dont know the rules of the road.

George, you are right on the money! Ed is probably one of those older drivers that get in the left lane on the freeway & think 55 is fast enough. Ed, you need to learn to drive in the right lane & you won’t have any trouble with the roundabouts. Besides, there are a lot of good lessons that come from Europe if you are wise enough to learn them.
