Montana's insurance regulator John Morrison, said he wants to give consumers information on the conduct of insurance companies.

Morrison said consumers could check to see how often a company cancels policies, delays claims or gets sued under his proposal, and that the information would help people choose between companies.

The proposal goes to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners meeting this weekend at its annual conference. Though the panel might not take up the issue until next month.

Morrison said the insurance industry opposes the plan, saying competitors could misuse the information to deceive consumers.

Insurers are asking the NAIC to delay this weekend's vote in San Francisco, to allow more time to work out the details.
