NWS Assessing Georgia Storm Damage

November 26, 2014

National Weather Service crews were trying to determine whether tornadoes were responsible for toppled trees and other damage from storms that knocked out power to thousands of customers across Georgia.

Georgia Power reports that more than 12,200 customers had lost service when the storms struck Sunday afternoon and evening. By early Monday morning, fewer than 300 customers remained without power.

Crews were also cleaning up damage Monday morning in several counties.

In Upson County, emergency management officials reported that several homes in the Thomasville area were badly damaged.

In Lamar County, WSB-TV reports that heavy winds brought down the roof of a public works building.

Emergency officials also reported to the National Weather Service that trees and power line were down in Bibb, Bleckley, Monroe, Pulaski, Telfair and Wilkinson counties.
