First off, there is no such thing as “reverse discrimination;” discrimination is discrimination whether it be against black, white or hispanic.
Second, I thought “disperate impact” required proof that the questions were biased in favor of a particular race. If the questions were general knowledge and management questions, I don’t think they could be biased. If you don’t know how to deploy at a fire, you are not worthy of a promotion – regardless of what color you are.
Last time I checked, fires were color blind and the people who fight them depend on proper tactics to stay alive.
I am sure they would have come to the same conclusion if zero Caucasians passed the test. From what I heard/read the test was based on job knowledge.. which is of course racist.
128 people took that test and not a single African-American scored high enough for a promotion. You can’t “dummy-down” an exam that deals with life safety and it’s an insult to those who passed the test to have the results tossed because of the outcome. Connecticut must be a gutless bunch of schmucks. One can only imagine the moral problem this has caused to the knowledgable members of the department.
Instead of accomodating the inability to learn and perform, businesses and government need to set a standard and stick by it. Now the pinheads on the supereme court have a dilemma? Maybe that should be asking why so few minorities did poorly. Are they just stupid or is there a flaw in the training.
As we all know by now, if you are black, or hispanic, or evben a single white mother, you are a “hero” . Having to actually know anything is not required. Just being in one of those groups is enough. So, society will get what it deerves. Soon, when that is all there is to “serve” us, we will get no service. Think DMV. Yeah, that’s what I want to rely on.
