New Jersey Chiropractor Pleads Guilty to Health Claims Fraud

November 6, 2013

A northern New Jersey chiropractor has admitted he improperly received more than $89,000 by having his staff submit false documentation to insurance companies.

Joseph Salomone of Nutley pleaded guilty Monday to health care claims fraud. He faces four years in prison when he’s sentenced Dec. 19 and will have to pay restitution to the insurers.

Salomone admitted he told office workers to complete periodic re-evaluation forms, which should have shown the results of range of motion tests conducted on automobile accident victims. The forms were supposed to show assessments Salomone made as to whether the patient needed continued or different chiropractic care.

But state authorities say investigators determined that Salomone directed his staff to complete the forms using pre-determined information that was unrelated to the actual patient assessment.
