Let the lawyer who filed the federal suit in 1995 for the Civic Association for the Deaf pay for the cost of responding to these alarms. I’m pretty sure he has the $$.
Those red fire boxes work 24/7 regardless the weather even if there is a wire break they still work due to way wiring and system is designed and since they are self powered from a main location power is not needed on both ends something cell phones ,broadband the internet etc.can not boast.
next time there is a disaster in ny
and all the cell phones ad land lines are jammed or not working because they are computer based.
what are you going to do when you need help.
better think twice before you disconnect them.
Many of the fire alarm boxes are empty shelled. Been that way for years. They all should be removed as they pose danger to the pedestrian let alone the blind.
I had a serious accident with the fire alarm box on my way to the first day of work. It cost me $3,000 to have 25 inside and out stitches on my forehead and I did not have a health insurance. About the job, I lost it. They hired someone else. BTW, I am Deaf.

how many hearing impaired people in the U.S. DON’T have access to alarm box? The majority of them don’t and seem to cope with this supposed problem.
They NEVER seem to mention the POLICE button on these boxes…..hmm…??????
