Family Files Claim Over Son’s Death at Ariz. School

The parents of a 16-year-old student who drowned almost four months ago in the Ironwood High School pool in Glendale, Ariz., have filed a wrongful death claim.

The claim is a precursor to a lawsuit and seeks more than $26 million from the city of Glendale and the Peoria Unified School District.

Jesus “Jesse” Prado died May 14, two days after a classmate pulled him from the pool’s deep end. Prado’s family is seeking $26 million in damages and more than $170,000 in medical expenses plus $10,000 in funeral expenses.

The suit claims Glendale and the district owned the pool and were responsible for its safe operation.

An Ironwood High spokeswoman says the district received the claim. Glendale officials declined comment because of the litigation.
