Nevada Man Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

A 38-year-old Nevada man has been placed on probation and ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution for writing fake insurance policies for friends and family without their knowledge.

Washoe County District Judge Patrick Flanagan also handed down a suspended 12- to 32-month sentence to Bradley Buchanan, who earlier pleaded guilty to felony insurance fraud.

Buchanan was accused of writing the fake policies to gain commissions and bonuses.

The scheme was discovered when Buchanan’s sister began receiving notices demanding payment on an insurance policy she knew did not exist.

Victims suffered damage to their credit.

The Nevada Insurance Commission revoked Buchanan’s license last October.
