Prosecutors reportedly filed charges against former Denver Broncos player Billy Jenkins for vehicular homicide and driving under the influence after a motor-scooter driver was killed in a hit-and-run collision.
Jenkins also faces charges of leaving the scene and failure to provide insurance, the Arapahoe County District attorney’s office said Wednesday.
Tracy Gill, 51, died when his scooter was hit from behind on Aug. 28 in the Denver suburb of Aurora, police said. Jenkins ran from the scene but returned, according to police.
Jenkins is free on $50,000 bail. His attorney, David Kaplan, did not immediately return a call.
Conviction on the vehicular homicide and leaving the scene charges each carries a sentence of four to 12 years in prison. The other charges carry sentences of up to one year each.
Jenkins was a six-year pro who played for the St. Louis from 1997 through 1999, the year the Rams won the Super Bowl. He played for the Broncos in 2000 and split 2001 between Denver and the Green Bay Packers.
He played for the Buffalo Bills in 2002, his last NFL season.
