A fast-moving range fire near Circle, Mont. forced the evacuation of homes in northern McCone County.
The blaze started on the south side of Highway 16, roughly 30 miles north of Circle sometime before noon. It soon crossed the road, racing five miles toward Nickwall Creek.
McCone County Commissioner Connie Eissinger said only a few homes were evacuated; and no injuries were reported.
Wolf Point Fire Capt. Beau Garfield said an unoccupied trailer was destroyed near where the fire started, along with several sheds and outhouses.
Several other wildfires were reported in central and eastern Montana.
A blaze near Loma burned an estimated 2,700 acres on the north side of the Missouri River, then jumped the river and burned another 250 acres on the south side.
