North Carolina Police Charge Man in Construction Site Theft Ring

Police in North Carolina last week charged a wheelchair-bound man with operating a theft ring that hit construction sites and took countless appliances and other building materials.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that police stumbled across the cache of stolen goods when they went to 61-year-old Clifton Ray Moore’s house in Selma to arrest him for trafficking prescription drugs.

Moore was released on bail. Messages left at his home were not returned.

Officials recovered 50 appliances, 368 boxes of hardwood and laminate flooring, 17 whirlpool tubs and hundreds of other items from barns and storage buildings on Moore’s land.

Police speculate the dip in demand for construction materials resulted in a surplus of stolen goods that Moore was unable to turn around.
